Our Zkittlez clones — also known as The Original Z — are one of the most important and recognizable cultivars in modern California cannabis. This cut originated with 3rd Gen Family / Terp Hogz. He took it, refined it, and entered it into competitions. It won 1st Place at the 2016 Emerald Cup in Santa Rosa. It also took 1st Place Indica at the 2015 High Times Cannabis Cup in both San Francisco and Michigan. From there, its reputation spread coast to coast.
Zkittlez is also the genetic foundation behind dozens of modern hybrids. Runtz, White Runtz, and countless other candy-forward crosses trace directly back to this cut. If you want the original, this is it.

Genetics
Grape Ape is the primary indica parent. It contributes thick calyxes, grape-candy aroma, potential purple hues, and deep body relaxation. Grapefruit is the sativa influence. It adds bright citrus terpenes, an uplifting headspace, and the tropical fruit character the Z is famous for. A third undisclosed strain rounds out the lineage. Breeders have kept it private since day one. Together, these parents produce one of the most distinctive terpene profiles in cannabis — sweet, tropical, and fully candy-forward.
Aroma & Flavor
Zkittlez delivers an explosive tropical candy nose. The jar opens to a rush of sweet grape, berry, and citrus fruit. It is immediately recognizable. The Grape Ape genetics add a deep musky grape base. Grapefruit drives the bright tropical top notes. There is a subtle sour citrus undertone underneath the sweetness.
On the inhale, the flavor is smooth and candy-sweet with a thick, fruity mouthfeel. The exhale delivers a lingering musky berry finish. This is one of the most flavorful cultivars available at any potency level.
Primary Terpenes:
β-Caryophyllene
Myrcene
Limonene
Linalool
Ocimene
Appearance
Zkittlez produces chunky, dense colas in a spectrum of light green hues. Orange and golden pistils are prominent throughout the flower. Trichome coverage is generous and sticky. In cooler late-flower conditions, the Grape Ape genetics trigger stunning purple and deep violet hues. Running night temperatures down to 65°F in the final two weeks brings out the best color expression. Bag appeal is exceptional when grown well.
Effects
Zkittlez delivers a balanced, uplifting, and calming high. The onset is surprisingly active for an indica-dominant cultivar. The Grapefruit genetics produce a pleasant cerebral buzz — focused, alert, and happy. A gentle body relaxation follows. It does not lead to heavy sedation. Instead, it unwinds the body while keeping the mind clear. This strain works well at any time of day. It is particularly well-suited for stress relief, social settings, and creative downtime.

Growing Tips
Veg Stage: Zkittlez is sturdy and self-supporting. It builds a solid, branchy structure in veg without heavy intervention. Top early to increase flowering sites. Low-stress training helps fill out the canopy and improves yield.
Early Flower: Expect moderate stretch in the first two to three weeks after flip. Buds set quickly and stack well. This cultivar is notably resistant to mold and mildew. That makes it a reliable option across a range of environments, including outdoor and mixed-light.
Late Flower (Weeks 7–9): Back off nutrients around week 7. This allows the tropical candy terpene profile to fully develop. To bring out the purple and violet color expression, drop night temperatures to around 65°F. This activates the anthocyanins from the Grape Ape genetics. Even a few nights of cold exposure makes a visible difference.
Harvest: Begin checking trichomes around day 56. Mostly cloudy trichomes deliver the focused, uplifting effect profile Zkittlez is known for. Waiting for a mix of cloudy and amber shifts the experience toward heavier body relaxation. Both windows produce exceptional flower.
Curing: A slow cure is essential. Dry at 60–65°F for 10–14 days in sealed containers with daily burping. The tropical candy terpene layers deepen significantly with a proper cure. The grape and berry character becomes more pronounced as the cure progresses.
Zkittlez is one of the most decorated and influential cultivars in California cannabis history. It is a reliable choice for growers who want proven genetics, outstanding flavor, and broad market appeal.
