Dozer strain is an exclusive Roots Cannabis Nursery cut — a one-of-a-kind accidental cross of AK-47 (indica-dominant pheno) × Dosidos, discovered from a single seed in 2018. She predates Roots by a few years, born out of a real working nursery environment before any of this was planned. She is chunky, frosty, and high-yielding. The photos on this page are from that exact original plant.

The Origin Story

It started with a pheno hunt. Around early 2018, Greg at Roots Cannabis Nursery was running three different Dosidos seed packs from Archive Seed Bank with his friend and business partner, Josh, at Haze Cultivation in San Jose. During the hunt, one of the Dosidos plants accidentally pollinated an AK-47 growing nearby — the indica-dominant phenotype that Josh was running at the facility at the time.

Greg spotted a single seed sitting on top of one of the AK-47 buds. He pulled it off, dropped it in his shirt pocket, and took it home. Then he germinated it.

"I grew this seedling in a one gallon pot of Ocean Forest soil and didn't feed it anything the entire time. It grew into this nice, chunky, little frosty flower. I was so impressed with it. I was like — wow. We're keeping this plant." — Greg, Roots Cannabis Nursery

He took that seedling to another nursery he was running at the time and grew it out in an R&D tent. Dozer actually predates Roots Cannabis Nursery — she was discovered and developed before Roots even existed. As a result, she is one of the most storied cuts in the catalog.

The name came naturally. That day, Greg happened to be wearing a shirt from Dozer — a heavy rock band from Sweden. The name stuck. Furthermore, that same mother plant later became the genetic foundation of another Roots original strain, the Jammerz (Dozer x El Buzzard)— originally called Buzz Dozer.

Genetics

Dozer crosses the indica-dominant phenotype of AK-47 with Dosidos from Archive Seed Bank. The AK-47 side brings structure, potency, and the classic earthy, slightly sour character the strain is known for. Dosidos, on the other hand, contributes a rich cookie-gas quality, dense resin production, and the compact, chunky bud structure that defines Dozer's appearance.

Because this was an unplanned cross from a single seed — not a structured breeding program — Dozer represents something increasingly rare in modern cannabis: a genuine happy accident that proved itself entirely on its own merits.

Aroma & Flavor

Dozer leads with the classic AK-47 nose — earthy, slightly sour, and immediately familiar to anyone who knows the strain. Then the Dosidos cookie-gas comes through underneath, adding a rich, doughy sweetness with a light fuel finish.

The combination is grounded and complex. Furthermore, it appeals strongly to consumers who appreciate classic cultivar character over candy-forward modern profiles.

Effects

Dozer delivers a well-rounded indica-dominant experience. First, a comfortable euphoric lift sets in — relaxed, happy, and grounded. Then, the indica genetics take hold with a steady, full-body relaxation that builds through the high.

She is not a one-note sedating indica. Instead, Dozer stays functional and pleasant — well-suited for evening use, unwinding after a long day, or consumers who want classic indica comfort without complete couch-lock.

Growing Information

Dozer is a practical, high-performing plant. She stays medium to squatty in structure, finishes in 60–65 days, and yields extremely well for her size. Because she was grown out originally in a single gallon of Ocean Forest with zero additional feeding and still impressed, she has proven herself to be a vigorous, forgiving cultivar.

Dozer Strain Growing Tips

Structure: Dozer stays medium to squatty. Therefore, she fits well in indoor canopies with limited vertical space and performs consistently under mixed lighting. LST during veg helps spread the canopy and increase flowering sites.
Feeding: She proved herself in a single gallon of Ocean Forest with no additional feeding. As a result, she is a forgiving plant that does not require an aggressive nutrient program — though she will certainly respond well to one.
Late Flower: Pull back on nutrients in the final 10–14 days to let the earthy, cookie-gas terpenes fully develop. Consequently, the AK-47 character sharpens and the Dosido sweetness becomes more pronounced heading into harvest.
Curing: Finally, a slow cure at 60–65°F for 10–14 days brings out the full depth of Dozer's terpene profile. The earthy sour and cookie-gas notes settle and develop significantly with a proper cure.
